Accountant

Nature of Work

Assists with preparation of financial reports and day to day tasks that are financial in nature. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Controller.  Represents the Controller when necessary. This is an exempt, salaried position.

Examples of Duties

Preparation of pertinent financial reports to District management. Assists with payroll and accounts payable related duties which may include preparation and/or review depending on District staffing needs. Prepares for the annual audit.  Works collaboratively with the Controller and the Senior Management Team to assist with District insurance policies including health, workers compensation, property, liability & vehicle coverages.  Collaborates with the Controller to invest District funds. Prepares standard and ad hoc supporting documentation for union negotiations, budgeting, and other District matters. Prepares accounting schedules and related general ledger adjustments. Acts as a backup to the Controller.

DESIRABLE Qualifications

Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. Professional certification desirable.  One to five years experience in Governmental Accounting or similar.  Experience in budgeting, cash management, investments, insurance, audit, and internal controls. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with third party payroll providers, Sage based accounting systems, and fixed asset software is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls development and review, and business administration.  Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Must be tech savvy and be comfortable learning new software and troubleshooting. Ability to work independently, with others and the public.  Must possess and exhibit good communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary and Benefits

Compensation ranges from $60,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience.
