Inspects, repairs, cleans and maintains the sanitary sewer collection system, including lift stations, bar screens and CSO facility. Reports to the Field Maintenance Foreman or Supervisor. This is a non-exempt bargaining unit position.
Operates construction equipment for repairing sewers and manholes. Makes repairs to broken sewer lines and manholes using masonry and grouting methods; performs cleaning of manholes, chambers, bar screens and sewers using high velocity jet flushing and manual methods; hauls bulk materials such as gravel, sand, excavated spoil, grit & sludge using dump trucks; performs regular maintenance & repairs to lift station & CSO buildings. Requires work on a rotating 24-hour emergency call-out for sanitary sewer, lift station or CSO facility operation or problems (One week out of six week period minimum).

Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or vocational school and five years experience in general maintenance work.
Must be able to exhibit the understanding and ability to enter & exit a confined space unassisted following all safety requirements as set forth by the Illinois Department of Labor. Upon entry with proper safety equipment in place, must be able to perform regular maintenance & cleaning of bar screens, manholes, structures, valves or siphons.
CDL A license preferred, but not required.
Must acquire proper license & endorsement from the State of Illinois Secretary of State to legally operate the District’s jetter truck, semi-truck and trailer before the expiration of six months in position. Willing to receive training & demonstrate proper skills to safely operate mounted jet flushing unit on truck within the same six month period.
Must be able to perform moderate to heavy labor which may regularly include lifting of objects weighing in excess of eighty pounds (80 lbs.) and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must also possess and exhibit good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work both in a team and independently.
Starting pay is $19.56 /hr plus benefits. This is a non-exempt, hourly wage position.
