ENGINEERING / FIELD SECRETARY

Nature of Work

Work involves secretarial, computer, clerical tasks and related work as required. Requires organizational skills and the ability to work independently under the general supervision of the Assistant Engineering Supervisor. This position is a non-exempt hourly wage position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer service; issue construction permits and collect any fees; composes routine letters; prepares purchase orders; maintains filing systems; schedules water and sewer inspections; maintains bonded contractor list; computer data entry, reports, maintenance requests, back-up complaints, maintain communication with district field crews, customers, and contractors; billing of fines and fees, follow up to ensure payment is made; weekly calculation of department time sheets and record keeping of vacations, sick time, and personal days; scanning files; communicates and schedules work with district televising contractor; process J.U.L.I.E callout requests.

DESIRABLE Qualifications

Graduation from high school. Two years college preferred. Proficient in basic computer use including, Microsoft Word and Excel. Two years previous customer service work experience is required.  Bilingual applicants or willingness to learn basic Spanish is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of modern office practices and of business English. Ability to maintain complex clerical records and prepare accurate reports and summaries from simple statistical material; ability to understand and follow difficult and varied oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, and the general public. Must possess and exhibit good communication and interpersonal skills.
