This position assists Operators in all of their regular daily duties. Performs duties under supervision of the Operations Supervisor or Operations Foremen, and is subject to review through observations of work performed. This is a non-exempt wage bargaining unit position. There is a 365-day probationary period.
An employee in this position will assist in the operations of the treatment plant. At the completion of training with a positive evaluation from the Operations Supervisor, the employee will be available to the work the K.O., S.O., and N.O. positions and will be eligible for available overtime to fill those respective positions when needed.
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or possess GED equivalent, and must pass the Operations Apprentice Examination to qualify for this position.
Demonstrate progressive knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods involved in the operations of a wastewater treatment plant, knowledge of safe working practices, and ability to keep records.
Ability to obtain an Operator in Training Certificate or a Class 4 Operator Certificate or higher from the State of Illinois to be eligible for promotion into the Operator classification.

This job is a Swing Shift position with the possibility of working any of the three shifts or a combination of the three shifts.
Starting hourly wage is $21.79/hour and $22.55/hour after 6 months of service. Second and third shift employees earn an additional hourly shift differential.
