Operations Apprentice
The Fox Metro Water Reclamation District is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual to join the team of Plant Operations. The Plant Operations team oversees the treatment process of wastewater from the following areas; Aurora, North Aurora, Oswego, Montgomery, Sugar Grove, Boulder Hill, and portions of Yorkville and Batavia. The goal of Fox Metro Water Reclamation District is to protect humans and the ecosystem from harmful and toxic elements found in wastewater. Fox Metro is designed to speed up the natural process of purifying water by using various methods and sending it back into the environment to keep humans and the Earth safe and thriving.
Nature of Work
This entry-level position assists Operators in all of their regular daily duties. Performs duties under the supervision of the Plant Manager, Operations Supervisor, or Operations Foremen and is subject to review through observations of work performed. This is a non-exempt hourly wage (per the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees – AFSCME 31). There is a 365-day probationary period.
Examples of Duties
This position performs various tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Assists with the overall operation of the treatment plant by interpreting analytical data, monitoring process performance, and making recommendations based on observations. Assists with all aspects of the solids handling process, including operating de-watering equipment, hauling dewatered and/or dried biosolids, and screening materials for final disposal. Adjust chemical feed rates, gates, valves, and pumps manually, automatically, or remotely based on operations conditions. Conduct building walkthroughs for any adverse conditions regarding pumps, motors, piping, valves, and process. Work safely, following all OSHA rules, District procedures, and other guidelines that dictate a safe work environment.
Qualifications
Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in the Wastewater Industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate progressive knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods involved in the operations of a wastewater treatment plant, knowledge of safe working practices, and ability to keep records. The level of independence associated with this position requires good organizational and time-management skills.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements of this job include the ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, reach, grasp, lift or move (up to 50 pounds), listen, and speak. Job activities are performed year-round indoors and outdoors, in weather conditions that include rain, snow, smoke, noise, odors, toxic agents, extreme heat and cold, wind, bright sun, and other elements of nature.

This job is a Swing Shift position with the possibility of working any of the three shifts or a combination of the three shifts.
Salary and Benefits
The starting wage offered for this position is $22.34 per hour with fringe benefits
