SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER

Nature of Work

The Fox Metro Water Reclamation District (FMWRD) is seeking qualified applicants for an exempt, full-time employment position to perform work of considerable complexity under the general supervision of the Management Team.  Assist with coordinating engineering activities at FMWRD.  Assists the internal Capital Improvements Committee with planning and coordinating FMWRD construction activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with staff to prepare scope of projects and cost estimates. Coordinates progress towards completion of design.  Reviews plans and specifications.  Reviews bidding results and references of bidders.  Recommends actions to District Manager.
  • Coordinates progress of construction projects and determines the scope of services with Consultants for Construction Phase work. Oversees progress of construction projects.  Attends construction meetings.  Reviews correspondence from contractors and engineers.  Reviews pay requests, requests for information and change orders.  Resolves problems with construction.
  • Plan, organize, design and develop specifications on small projects and supervise the construction for assigned projects.
  • Assists the Capital Improvements Committee in the preparation of the short term and long-term project budgeting. Assists with refined estimates detailing 1-year and 5-year capital improvement plans for District rate studies.
  • Promote the best interests of the District and maintains integrity in accordance with FMWRD Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

Illinois Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Civil/Environmental Engineering.  A minimum of 8 years of related progressive experience in water and wastewater with increasing levels of supervisory experience and responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to communicate technically complex issues effectively via oral and written correspondence to co-workers, associates, and the public. Demonstrates understanding of wastewater issues and applicable regulations.  Gather, organize, and analyze technical data or information related to the assigned projects.

This is an on-site, non-personnel management position, Monday through Friday.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, database, and other computer programs to prepare documents and presentations.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Must have the ability to work in a Team Environment.

Working conditions

Physical demands include sitting, standing, working on computers for extended periods.  Ability to walk in and around facilities, construction sites and equipment with work requiring stooping, bending and kneeling.  The work environment will require the periodic exposure to moderate noises, odors, corrosive gasses and ability to work in confined space.

SALARY RANGE

Commensurate with experience.
