Pretreatment Internship

Nature of Work

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Compliance Coordinator, works alongside the Pretreatment staff to help maintain the Industrial Pretreatment Program by ensuring compliance with District Ordinances, and Federal and State Regulations. Assistance with the department’s other programs such as FOG Prevention, medication disposal, septic hauler, etc.

Examples of Duties

Assists with collecting wastewater samples including plant samples, industrial samples, wastewater pathogen sampling, and miscellaneous sampling when needed. Assist with sorting and disposing of unused /expired medication dropped of at the District. Monitor and assist with septic hauler discharges and billing. Assist with the Industrial Wastewater Survey project. Other duties will include cleaning equipment, vehicles, and workspaces (garage, office, etc.), washing lab bottles, clerical tasks such as organizing files, creating labels, assisting with monthly billing, and data entry, and taking mail to the Post Office.

DESIRABLE Qualifications

Training and Experience: High School Degree/GED; No experience necessary. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Skilled in verbal and written communication; Must be able to occasionally lift objects up to 75 pounds. Must be comfortable in a work environment that may include exposure to wastewater, hazardous material, chemical fumes, and/or airborne particles.

Pay Rate and Hours

This job description is for a seasonal, part-time internship that will pay $15/ hour.
